Oath Home is thrilled to partner with Step by Step, an organisation that passionately believes in supporting and empowering local young people who are going through hard times, including homelessness.
Step by Step's unique approach provides accommodation, personal development opportunities, and specialist support services to empower young people and break the cycle of homelessness for good. They believe young people should not be defined by their circumstances and should not have to sacrifice their aspirations and life chances because they find themselves homeless.
A recent survey carried out by Centrepoint showed that 110,000 16-24 year-olds were homeless or at risk of homelessness in the UK; this statistic is just the tip of the iceberg and doesn’t account for the thousands of young people who are experiencing ‘hidden homelessness’. Between January and March 2020, an estimated 11.2% of all people aged 16 to 24 years were not in education, employment or training (NEET). Together with the fact that 50% of mental health problems are established by the age of 14, and 75% by age 24, the barriers that vulnerable young people face become impossible to overcome on their own.
Step by Step's services tackle the issues outlined above in a holistic approach. Their three main pillars of work – accommodation, counselling, and personal development – aim to reduce these national statistics year to year and make genuine change to young people’s lives.
Last year, Step by Step’s services gave the chance of a brighter future to 1,091 vulnerable young people in the South of England and prevented homelessness for over 460 young people, with 96% of these making positive progress towards independent living, breaking the cycle of homelessness for good.
